Why Can’t I Write My Essay, But I Can Write a Whole Novel to My Friend?
Hello!
Let me paint a picture:
You sit down to write a 500 word essay.
You stare at the blank document.
You write a sentence. Delete it. Rewrite it. Hate it. Stare at the wall.
Suddenly, it’s been an hour and all you’ve written is, in today’s world…
Panic. Existential crisis. Regret.
BUT!
The second your friend asks, Yo, what happened?, you transform into Shakespeare.
2,000 words. No effort. No overthinking. Just pure, passionate, fire emoji-worthy storytelling.
Where was this energy when I needed to submit my assignment??
Passion, Where Do You Go When I Need You?
Writing an essay should be easier, right? I mean, it’s literally just facts and analysis. No emotions needed. No unnecessary details. But nope, somehow, it feels ten times harder than writing a rant about someone random who doesn’t even matter.
Here’s my theory:
No stakes = No stress = Flow state unlocked!
When texting, you don’t care about structure, grammar, or if your argument makes sense. You’re just letting thoughts flow.
Essays require logic. Rants require vibes.
In an essay, you have to prove a point. In a rant? The point is rage. Or excitement. Or drama. Basically, whatever you feel.
Deadlines kill creativity.
The moment something becomes an obligation, it’s like our brain throws a tantrum and refuses to cooperate.
The Trick? Treat Your Essay Like a Rant.
What if, instead of writing an essay, you just wrote a very passionate text to a friend about the topic?
Explain it the way you would in a heated voice note.
Don’t worry about structure, just dump your thoughts first.
Then go back and clean it up.
Basically, trick your brain into caring by making it fun. Because let’s be honest, half the time, essays only start making sense after we’ve written way too much and then cut half of it out.
Your Turn
Tell me, why is it so easy to write nonsense for hours, but so hard to write a simple assignment?
Reply and let’s rant about it together.
